Nandi – A Leap Forward in Telugu Language AI

The Rise of AI in India’s Regional Languages

Artificial intelligence (AI) and language models tailored to regional languages are witnessing a remarkable boom in India. Among the latest entrants in this dynamic landscape is Nandi, a Telugu language model skillfully created by freelance data scientist Bharadwaj Swarna. Nandi, deeply rooted in cultural symbolism and linguistic accuracy, represents a significant step towards making AI more inclusive and accessible.

The Creation of Nandi AI

Bharadwaj Swarna, renowned for his proficiency in AI and natural language processing, set out on a mission driven by a passion for making information accessible to all. Drawing inspiration from his cultural background, Swarna conceptualized Nandi with the aim of breaking down language barriers, especially for those who do not speak English. His dedication to linguistic diversity and inclusivity is evident as Nandi is designed to enable seamless translation and understanding for the Telugu – speaking community. Through careful fine – tuning and continuous improvements using Direct Preference Optimization (DPO), Nandi is expected to provide accurate and nuanced answers to Telugu language queries.

Inspiration, Training, and Architecture

Nandi takes a great deal of inspiration from the pioneering work of Ramsri Goutham Golla and Ravi Theja Desetty of Telugu LLM Labs. Built on the foundation of Zephyr – 7b – Gemma, it is trained on a comprehensive dataset curated by Telugu LLM Labs. This reflects the collaborative nature that drives linguistic exploration, and stands as proof of the growing number of Indic language models emerging from India’s developer community.

Exploring the Landscape of Linguistic Diversity

Telugu LLM Labs, riding on the same wave of progress, has introduced Navarasa 2.0 after their revolutionary Telugu Llama model. This new Gemma 7B/2B instruction – tuned model can process content in 15 Indian languages along with English. Meanwhile, Swarna has plans for the future that include expanding datasets for DPO and refining the tokenizer. This showcases his commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in the field of Telugu language processing. As the AI landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like these emphasize a collective push towards linguistic inclusivity.

Our Perspective

The launch of Nandi and the ongoing efforts of passionate individuals like Bharadwaj Swarna mark a pivotal moment in the convergence of AI and linguistic diversity. With each new model and initiative, the scope of linguistic exploration broadens, creating a more inclusive and accessible digital world. As we celebrate the richness of language and cultural heritage, let us embrace the path towards linguistic equity. Let us strive for a future where every regional voice is heard and resonates in the digital realm.
