ISRO’s Free AI/ML Course – A Gateway to Technological Advancement

An Exciting Opportunity from ISRO

For those with a passion for the intersection of technology and education, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has something remarkable to offer. From August 19 to 23, ISRO is conducting a free, comprehensive online course focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). This course is a golden chance for students, professionals, and researchers to gain essential skills in these cutting – edge fields. What’s more, upon completion, participants will receive a certificate, which can significantly enhance their academic and professional portfolios.

The Outreach Program of IIRS

The course is part of ISRO’s Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) outreach program. Since its establishment in 2007, this program has been instrumental in promoting innovation and building capacity in geospatial technology. It has grown to include over 3,500 network institutes, benefiting a wide range of entities such as universities, government departments, research institutes, and NGOs.

Course Overview

ISRO’s free AI/ML course is a five – day online event. It features daily lectures from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. delivered by experts. The course covers a variety of topics including AI/ML basics, deep learning concepts, spaceborne Lidar systems, and practical applications using Google Earth Engine. All that participants need is a stable internet connection to join this enriching learning experience.

Eligibility and Content

The ISRO 5 – Day AI Course is designed for a diverse audience. It caters to professionals, students, and researchers in civil engineering, computer science, and geoinformatics, as well as those interested in exploring AI, ML, and deep learning (DL) for geospatial applications. The content is carefully curated to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. It includes an introduction to AI/ML and DL, exploration of machine – learning methods, in – depth study of deep learning concepts like CNN, RNN, etc., understanding of spaceborne Lidar systems, practical learning with Google Earth Engine, and hands – on experience with Python for developing machine and deep learning models.

Course Schedule

The course has a well – planned schedule with expert speakers. On August 19, Dr. Poonam Seth Tiwari will give an introduction to AI/ML and DL. Dr. Hina Pande will cover methods in machine learning on August 20. Dr. Poonam Seth Tiwari will be back on August 21 to discuss deep learning concepts and applications. Dr. Kamal Pandey will talk about machine learning through Google Earth Engine on August 22, and Ravi Bhandari will focus on Python for machine/deep learning models on August 23.

Enrollment Process

Interested individuals can register for the course through the IIRS website. Registration is on a first – come, first – served basis. For individual registrations, approval is automatic. Participants will receive ISRO Learning Management System (LMS) login credentials. Institutional participation is also welcome, with organizations needing to identify a coordinator to register as a nodal center. The enrollment steps include searching for the INDIAN INSTITUTE OF REMOTE SENSING on the website, finding the Distance Learning Programmes, clicking on the EDUSAT option, and then registering and waiting for the response to get the LMS credentials.

Certificate Award

Once participants successfully complete the course, they can download their certificate from the ISRO LMS. This certificate serves as proof of the skills acquired and the hard work put into the course.

ISRO’s initiative is a great opportunity for anyone looking to boost their knowledge and skills in AI and ML. It offers a path to understanding these transformative technologies and contribute to India’s growing space sector. Don’t miss this chance to enhance your capabilities and be part of something special!
